Today was a very busy, adventurous day for both Gryphon and myself. Today was his first ride in the new SUV. We worked a little clicker training on using the ramp to get in the back. He did great after a few tries and was in, happy with treats, and we were on our way. First we had to pick up his Chinese meds in Seabrook. He seemed a little unsteady on his pins. I'd have thought it would be more solid than the back seat he's had to balance on for the past 11 years but it didn't seem so. Maybe it just didn't feel as secure because of all the space he now has.
After meds were picked up, we head over to Pet Life to try out the self dog wash. Wow, what a neat idea. The last year has been difficult for me to continue tub baths with Gryphon as all the contortions I have to perform in that little bathroom leave me in spasm for hours after. When I ever found out about this self dog wash, I knew we had to try it. I brought all his familiar stuff but when it came to getting in the stainless steel tub and I saw the ramp, I knew we were going to have a problem. It was narrow. And it was not solid, but crate like. And to top it off, it moved. It didn't lock solidly to one side of the tub, it could shift 2" to either side, which of course it did when Gryphon tried to get on it. He would have none of it and I don't blame him. One of the staff kindly lifted him in for me though and it was smooth sailing after that. We proceeded then with a nice bath, condition and nail trim without a hitch and no pain for me. I was a happy camper! After grabbing some frozen raw diet and meaty bones, we head back to the car and dang it, if that ramp now made him suspicious after that moving one in the dog wash. He would not use it and fortunately the same staff gal helped him in the car. I have to work with him and his clicker now to help him overcome his fear of the sturdy ramp he once trusted. Ah well, he came home and is exhausted. A tired dog is a happy dog and this day of adventure was quite enough for the old boy. At least he is all clean and fluffy now.
Thought for the day: Get a new car for your spouse - It'll be a great trade! (just kidding Stan!)
