Fern Glade

Ah, another shawl is finished.  This is Fern Glade by Fiddlesticks Knitting.  I used that lovely olive tencel and I still have 1/2 of a cone left.  This was a really fun but challenging shawl.  I look for projects that will  challenge me and feel I had it in this one.  (I think that is because I'm basically a problem solving person)  The shawl doesn't have purl rows on the reverse side for most of the patterning.  The wrong side rows are, for the most part, also patterned so it is slow going.  Add to that, the fact I used very small needles because the shawl is so large; and that means this has been an intricate project indeed.  I'm very pleased with how it came out and plan to bring it to Stitches.

Here a couple of close ups of the lovely patterning.  Have I mentioned I love leaves?

What a productive month it has been for me with lace.  I just love it.  I'm going to cast on another shawl with that lovely hand dyed fall leaf colors tencel I mentioned in the last post.  I decided not to use that skein for the entrelac shawl Dianna because the repeats were so short so I'm going to try knitting with it on Gail (aka Nightsongs).  Yup, the shawl is named Gail and it's - you guessed it, leaves.  I'll knit a few repeats and see how the yarn works up and let the yarn tell me if this is what it wants to be.

Next week is Stitches and I'm SO excited about it this year.  I'm very much looking forward to sharing a room right in the Mariott with Sue; just us girls.  I don't often have girl time one-on-one because of the damn  fibro limiting me to only be able to accomplish my various jobs and weekends with Teagan and that's just about it.  Of course, being nocturnal and sleeping so late doesn't help matters.   It's so hard to fit in anything extra for fun and still have the energy to work.  That work just gets in the way sometimes.  Wouldn't it be nice if we didn't have to work and could stay home and knit?  Imagine all we could get accomplished as knitters.  I cherish my month of October when I can actually get away to the mountains and go to Stitches.  Even though I only take off time from teaching and still do the office cleaning, the time away rejuvenates me and I look forward to it more each year.

Thoughts for the day:  The hardness of butter is directly proportional to the softness of the bread AND the colder the x-ray table, the more of your body is required on it.
