Bags for The Bag Ladies

I don't know what it is about knitters but don't we just love bags?  Big bags, small bags, fancy bags, plain bags; we love them all.  We are all bag ladies.  It's best to have a bag for each wip and that makes it easier to identify what project it is when you want to grab something on your way out the door to knit while hubby is driving or when you arrive at your destination.  In fact, when casting on for a new project, I give serious consideration which bag it will reside in.  I consider where I will be when I knit the project, will it be large enough for the project, will a drawstring closure work best or would a zippered bag be what's needed.

Most of my projects have a long life in their bags.  I have a history of casting on quite a few projects at a time and rotating between them all.  I'm a process knitter, remember, and so I pick up what project either has the tactile factor I'm wanting (mmm cashmere or MadelineTosh) or size needles my hands feel comfortable with at the time.  Sometimes it is just the color of the yarn I'm needing to see.  I notice when I'm stressed I always reach for something green.  I've been going to the red Pi Shawl when feeling upbeat.  I have the Horus Shawl in that beautiful chestnut brown that reminds me of Gryphon so when I'm feeling I want to be filled with the sight of his color fur, I grab that.  The deep rust top I just finished was so important to be worked on when I was suffering from the awful heat of this past summer.  It just never seemed to end and I longed for fall every day.  The rust color filled me with the memory of changing leaves so I thoroughly enjoyed being lifted away in my mind to that cooler time of the year.  I felt the same with the Bee Fields Shawl I just finished.  That particular golden/brown/green color was another fall color to soothe me.

Oh yes, I hadn't mentioned.  The Bee Fields shawl is finished!  Hooray!  I need to block it and I'm itching to get to that so I can wear it at Stitches!!!   I will have Bee Fields and Maia to wear (with my new bunny shawl pin from Sue) and Tread Softly will also be back from the fair so I'll have the option to wear that as well.   So I finished three wips in three weeks.  See what I mean about rotating my projects?  It's super cool when they all seem to be at about the same place and bang, bang, bang I get into a finishing streak when they all come up to the finish line.

I dug out the Einstein Illusion blanket last night and plan to work a bit on that before I cast on Trellis and Fins.  I've ordered yarn from Knit Picks and it's on the way but I hope I can hold out just a while longer so I can make a little more progress on Einstein.   I really want to give it to my friend Marjorie so she can enjoy it.  She loves Einstein.  She has books about him, magazines, pictures.  Yup, she's a definite fan.   I'm half way through the piece now and it's terribly easy; but that's what gets me.  Add that to the fact that it is black and white - UGH - I know I'm dreaming of a more challenging project and Trellis and Fins is rated experienced.  That should give me the kick I need ha?  just - hold - me - back --------

Getting back to bags, the etsy shop is about to go live and I've stitched  some bags to sell in it.  I have several more different fabrics cut out and ready to assemble; but here is a preview of what I've sewn so far.

Flowers in a basket..........

Kitties in a basket..............
Small drawstring black sheep bag front
and back bunny in the garden.
Zippered larger bag with the cool black sheep.

The shop's name is KnocturnalKnitter just like the blog because Cottontail Creations was taken.  I did, however, put Cottontail Creations as part of the shop.  A little technicality that still allows me to have my Cottontail Creations labels inside my bags.  I'm thinking it may be easier for those who know my blog to find my shop under Knocturnal Knitter anyway; so it all worked out in the end.

There are other bags but not photographed yet; and as I mentioned other fabrics are cut out  but need to be assembled.  This is just a sneak peak to tease.  So think about which of your projects could use a new bag.  Which bag would suit that particular project?  Who knows, maybe I have just what you need.

Thought for the day - Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving.
