Spring Spinning

Well, spring is here. I will miss the snow and cool, crisp weather. I am probably the only one. That's OK. I've been told I'm eccentric, guess it's true. I've tried to plan fun stuff for spring knowing this is the time of year I feel drained emotionally; but plans have fallen through so it's business as usual. I sure am run down from cleaning 6 nights a week all winter. I'll be glad when the offices can go back to once a week for the warmer months. That's one plus I am grateful for.
I did enjoy the quilting retreat with Tammy again this year. It was a nice break in the routine. I did not sew, I spun; but Teagan sewed and swam and sewed and swam. She's a little fish, that love. She's growing up. It's sad to see the child being replaced by a pre-teen. She's still an awesome kid (of course I'm partial) but I'll forever miss that little munchkin that loved the jungle gym. Now it is computers and cell phone texting and friends. I'm glad she is happy and healthy and we had a good time together at the retreat. I'm very proud of the young lady she is becoming.
Anyway, I have done some spinning. As winter started winding down I started an autumn blend polwarth that I absolutely love the results. It's mostly rust and golds but there is green, brown and pumpkin in there as well. All my favorite fall colors. I think this will make a nice vest sometime down the road. 8 oz - 1166 yards.
Next I finished the February fiber of the month from Purple Fleece - Lover's Knot. This awesome fiber is 50/50 merino/tencel and was a dream to spin. It is very soft and very shiny. I plan to design a lace scarf for this yarn. I just love the pink with a hint of purple in there. Imagine that? I know, it surprises me too. 3 oz - 440 yards.

I'm loving this fiber club. I've received the fiber for March and it is a riot of color. I thought for sure March would bring something green so this was a total surprise! It is called Iridescence and is corriedale wool. Another fiber I have never spun so I look forward to starting this. What a colorful yarn this will make!!
I've finished the Metamorphosis sweater and it is now blocking. I sewed on the grosgrain ribbon last night along the button/buttonhole band and really like the outcome. I made the buttonholes on the ribbon with my sewing machine after a failed attempt at hand sewing them. It looks nice and neat and I think will give the band needed stability with this sweater. I learned a lot with this KAL and look forward to the next one with Bad Cat Designs. I hope it is a challenging shawl. So far 50% are leaning towards that choice so my fingers are crossed.
I'm just about finished test knitting another shawlette for Paivi. I should finish tonight. I've knit this one in undyed merino/silk that I plan to hand paint the different crescents on it as soon as I can find the cold padding dyes. I've never done that before and it looks intriguing to me so I'm going to give it a whirl. Maybe there will be a class at the next Stitches East. That would be awesome.

Thought for the day: Knit long and prosper

Lovely yarns. I'm waiting for the summer and warm weathers, when it's nice to spin outside.
